Ingredients

1 lb (450g) fresh white or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)

1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice for brightness

Instructions

Prepare the Pan: In a large skillet, heat over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of the butter and let it melt. Make sure the pan is hot enough that the butter bubbles but does not burn.

Sauté the Mushrooms: Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the mushrooms in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan; you may need to do this in batches. Sauté the mushrooms for about 4-5 minutes, without stirring too much, until they are golden brown on one side.

Flip and Flavor: Stir the mushrooms and continue to sauté for another 3-4 minutes until they are browned all over. The mushrooms will release their juices.

Add Garlic and Herbs: Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic, thyme, and rosemary. Stir gently to combine, allowing the garlic to cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Worcestershire and Butter: Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir until the butter melts and coats the mushrooms evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Finishing Touches: If using, squeeze a little fresh lemon juice over the mushrooms for added brightness. Stir to combine.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the mushrooms to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve hot as a side dish or as a topping for steak or grilled meats.
