Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1/4 cup fresh chives, finely chopped

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Extra cheddar cheese and chives for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with some larger pea-sized pieces.

Add Cheese and Chives: Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and honey (if using) until well combined.

Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until the mixture just comes together; be careful not to overmix.

Knead and Shape: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it just a couple of times until it holds together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Use a floured biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Topping (optional): If desired, sprinkle extra cheddar cheese and chives on top of each biscuit for added flavor and presentation.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and flaky.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Serve warm and enjoy!
