Ingredients

1 loaf of fresh Italian or French bread

1 cup of shredded Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

10 cloves of garlic, minced

3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, oregano, and thyme. Mix well until the garlic and herbs are evenly distributed in the butter.

Prepare the Bread: Using a serrated knife, cut the loaf of bread into vertical slices about 1 inch apart without cutting all the way through the bottom. Then, make diagonal cuts in the opposite direction to create a crisscross pattern.

Add the Garlic Butter: Carefully spread the garlic butter mixture in between each cut of bread, making sure to get some in every crevice. Drizzle any remaining garlic butter over the top of the loaf.

Add Parmesan Cheese: Gently pull apart the slices of bread to sprinkle the shredded Parmesan cheese generously between the cuts. Ensure some cheese remains on top as well.

Wrap and Bake: Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil, making sure it is sealed to help keep the bread moist. Place it on a baking sheet and bake it in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes.

Unwrap and Crisp: After 20 minutes, carefully unwrap the foil and return the bread to the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden, and the edges of the bread are crispy.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Pull apart the slices of bread and enjoy while warm!
