1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (14 oz) jar pizza sauce

1 ½ cups sliced pepperoni

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or Italian sausage. Incorporate the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess fat.

      Add Sauce and Seasoning: Stir in the pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.

        Assemble the Casserole:

          - In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over the bottom.

            - Layer half of the tater tots on top of the meat mixture.

              - Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the tater tots, followed by a layer of half the pepperoni slices.

                - Repeat the layering with the remaining tater tots, cheeses, and pepperoni.

                  Bake the Casserole: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
