Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced cooked ham

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a 9x13 inch baking dish in the oven to heat up while you prepare the dough.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, pour in the milk and melted butter. Stir to combine.

Combine Mixtures: Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk and butter mixture. Gently stir until just combined. Do not over-mix; a few lumps are fine.

Prepare Baking Dish: Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven. Pour the remaining half of the melted butter into the dish and allow it to coat the bottom.

Spoon Biscuit Dough: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough into the baking dish. It doesn’t have to be perfect; they will spread as they bake.

Swim Time: Once all the dough is in the dish, drizzle any leftover melted butter over the top of the biscuits. This is where the swim comes from!

Bake: Place the baking dish back in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Let them cool in the dish for about 5 minutes before serving. Use a spatula to cut apart and serve warm. Enjoy your deliciously cheesy and buttery biscuits!
