Ingredients

8 slices of thick bread (Brioche or Challah recommended)

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup melted butter (for greasing the pan)

Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)

Maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Fresh berries (for serving, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will help prevent the French toast sticks from sticking.

Prepare the Bread: Cut each slice of bread into 3 equal strips to form sticks. Set aside.

Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side. Make sure they are well-coated but not overly soggy.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the soaked bread sticks on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching each other.

Coat with Butter: Drizzle the melted butter over the sticks or brush them lightly with a pastry brush, making sure each stick gets a bit of butter for that golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm with maple syrup and fresh berries on the side.
