Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and drained

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)

1/2 cup sesame seeds

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Cooking oil spray or oil for frying

Instructions

Prep the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces) and place them in a bowl.

Marinate the Tofu: In a separate bowl, mix together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Pour this marinade over the tofu and gently toss to coat. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Prepare Breading Station: While the tofu marinates, set up a breading station:

        - In one shallow dish, add the flour mixed with cornstarch.

          - In another dish, place the panko breadcrumbs and sesame seeds together, mixing well.

Bread the Tofu Nuggets: Remove the tofu from the marinade, allowing excess liquid to drip off. First, coat each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dip it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure it sticks.

              Fry or Bake:

                - Frying Method: Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tofu nuggets in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

                  - Baking Method (Healthier Option): Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange the breaded tofu nuggets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spray or drizzle with oil. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Serve: Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce like sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce, or sriracha. Enjoy these crunchy nuggets as an appetizer, snack, or part of a main meal!
