Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm or extra-firm tofu

2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon nutritional yeast (optional, for added flavor)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking spray or olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Press the Tofu: Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towel and place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron skillet) for about 15-30 minutes.

Prepare the Marinade: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Cube the Tofu: After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1 inch each). Gently toss the cubes into the marinade, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes for maximum flavor.

Coat with Starch: After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch and nutritional yeast (if using) over the cubed tofu. Gently toss the cubes again to coat them evenly in the starchy mixture, which will help create that beloved crunch.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

Air Fry the Tofu: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or drizzle a little olive oil. Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer in the basket, being careful not to overcrowd them. You may need to do this in batches depending on your air fryer size.

Cooking Time: Air fry the tofu for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. The tofu should be golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve: Once done, remove the tofu from the air fryer. Let it cool slightly, then serve as a snack, salad topper, or in a stir-fry. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
