Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or turkey)

1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 oz)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz)

1 can refried beans (16 oz)

1/2 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned, drained)

1/4 cup chopped green onions

1/2 cup salsa

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Cooking spray (or olive oil)

Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, jalapeños

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Brown the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey). Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.

Season the Meat: Add the taco seasoning to the cooked meat and stir according to package instructions, usually adding a bit of water. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until combined well. Remove from heat.

Prepare the Dough: Open the crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a floured surface. Pinch the seams together to form a rectangle. Cut the dough into strips that are about 1.5 inches wide.

Assemble the Taco Sticks: Take a strip of dough and spread a thin layer of refried beans down the center. Add a spoonful of the seasoned meat mixture, followed by a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, diced tomatoes, and green onions.

Wrap the Sticks: Carefully roll the dough around the filling, starting from one end and pinching the dough to seal. Make sure the edges are sealed tightly to prevent leakage during baking.

Prepare for Baking: Place the rolled taco sticks seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.

Serve: Remove the taco sticks from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or your choice of toppings.
