Ingredients

For the Grits:

1 cup stone-ground grits

4 cups chicken or vegetable broth

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and black pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the Shrimp:

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Grits:

In a large pot, bring the chicken or vegetable broth to a boil. Gradually whisk in the stone-ground grits. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, for about 20-25 minutes, or until thickened.

      Add Cheese:

Once the grits are cooked, stir in the butter, cheddar cheese, heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Keep warm on low heat.

          Cook the Shrimp:

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the 4 tablespoons of butter. Once melted and bubbling, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

              Season the Shrimp:

Sprinkle the Cajun seasoning over the shrimp, mixing to coat evenly. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and are cooked through.

                  Finish with Lemon:

Stir in the lemon juice and red pepper flakes (if using) for extra flavor. Remove from heat.

                      Serve:

To serve, spoon the creamy grits onto plates and top with the Cajun garlic butter shrimp. Garnish with sliced green onions and chopped parsley for a fresh touch.

                          Enjoy:

Serve immediately and savor every delicious bite of this comforting dish!
