Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

3/4 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg (for egg wash)

Extra maple syrup for drizzling (optional)

Coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.

Mix Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while folding gently with a spatula. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should just come together. Fold in the toasted pecans.

Shape the Scones: Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Gently pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut the circle into 8 wedges (like a pizza) or use a round biscuit cutter to make traditional scones.

Prepare for Baking: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Beat the egg and brush it over the top of each scone for a shiny finish. If desired, sprinkle with coarse sugar.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown. They should puff up beautifully!

Cool & Serve: Let the scones cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before drizzling with additional maple syrup if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
