Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

5 cloves garlic, minced

1-2 Thai bird chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces

2 cups fresh Thai basil leaves, loosely packed

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (for color)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon lime juice

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Prepare the Aromatics: Heat a large wok or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and chopped bird chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Cook the Beef: Add the marinated flank steak to the pan in a single layer. Let it sear for about 1-2 minutes without stirring, then toss to cook until the beef is browned and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes). Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Cook the Vegetables: In the same pan, add the sliced red bell pepper and green beans. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are vibrant and tender but still crisp.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the pan, along with any juices it released. Add the lime juice and the fresh Thai basil leaves. Stir everything together for about 1 minute, allowing the basil to wilt and release its aromatic oils.

Serve: Carefully transfer the basil beef stir-fry onto a serving plate or bowl. Serve hot over a bed of jasmine rice. Enjoy the vibrant flavors of this classic Thai dish!
