Ingredients

2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon brown sugar

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon flour (for dusting)

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: Begin by washing and coring the apples. Slice them thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) and place them in a medium bowl. Add the lemon juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar, and gently toss to coat. Microwave the apple slices for about 1-2 minutes until they are just slightly softened. Set aside to cool.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to flatten it slightly. Cut the pastry into long strips, approximately 2 inches wide. Each strip should be long enough to accommodate the apple slices.

Assemble the Roses: Lay the apple slices along the edge of each pastry strip, overlapping them slightly to create a rose petal effect. Sprinkle a little granulated sugar and flour on the pastry for added sweetness and to prevent sticking. Fold the bottom part of the pastry strip up over the apple slices, encasing them slightly, to form a rose shape.

Shape the Roses: Roll the pastry strip gently from one end to the other, creating a rose. Pinch the bottom to secure the shape if needed. Place each rose into a muffin tin (greased or lined with paper liners) to help them hold their shape while baking.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the puff pastry roses with the beaten egg to achieve a beautiful golden color as they bake.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Allow the roses to cool for a few minutes before carefully removing them from the muffin tin. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Enjoy: Serve warm or at room temperature as a delicious dessert or a stunning brunch option!
